Summary As the senior person in the market, this individual manages the community bank office, and is responsible for all aspects of ag/commercial lending activity. Directs business development, staff development, customer satisfaction, community leadership, promotes corporate culture, goals, and objectives. Assists bank President/CEO in corporate planning for market to set mutually agreed upon market position growth and profitability targets. As a member of the bank management team, is expected to be a leader in promoting high morale, in exhibiting positive attitudes toward customers and with fellow employees, instilling a sense of team spirit, and support company initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Creates and maintains a sales and referral focus to include the delivery of all products and services to customers. Direct and oversee the function to ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved.
  2. Ensures effective day to day operation of the market including compliance with regulations, effective service, and profitable operations within budgetary guidelines.
  3. Works closely with Administration to ensure effective delivery of banking services to the bank's customers
  4. Directs and oversees the Ag/Commercial Lending function for the market to develop a high quality and profitable portfolio.
  5. Monitors market performance and provide input on pricing, target markets, and product mix for the respective market. Direct marketing efforts of subordinate staff to achieve market goals for loans and deposits.
  6. Interprets, directs, or implements bank policies and procedures in accordance with applicable state, federal, and local laws and regulations.
  7. Serves on bank committees as directed.
  8. Identifies needs and assist with correcting problems in areas such as operations, Human Resources, service delivery, compliance, etc.
  9. Provides leadership and participate in appropriate community/civic activities to enhance the bank's presence, image, and reputation in the community.
  10. Develops and maintains a high level of employee morale in the market.
  11. Exercises the usual authority in the management of assigned staff.
    1. Evaluate performance of immediate officers.
    2. Review subordinate recommendations/decisions on staff performance issues, salary issues, promotions, terminations, etc., in conjunction with Human Resources.
    3. Provide guidance, counseling, coaching, and motivation as necessary/appropriate.
    4. Develop personnel based on capacity, performance, initiative, and interest for future positions.
  12. Maintains a good working rapport with other (operational) departments to assure smooth workflow.
  13. Refers business to other functional areas as appropriate.
  14. Maximizes the sales of all company products and/or service either directly or through referrals.
  15. Accompanies staff on business development calls to generate new banking relationships, and to continually coach them on proper calling techniques.
  16. Works with Retail Manager and Marketing department to define localized marketing requirements in the defined market area complementing the centralized marketing efforts of the company as a whole. This would include defining a plan to develop a high profile for the market by whatever means may be appropriate for the area, including localized direct mail, local sponsorships of events, representation in community organizations, etc.
  17. Provides input and assists in the preparation of, and adherence to, annual budgets for activities conducted in the defined market area.
  18. Serves as Senior Lending Officer for the market portfolio; extending credit and servicing loans, generally the largest, most important and complex loans. Assumes overall responsibility for the market's loan portfolio, and C.R.A/Fair Lending compliance in conjunction with the other team members who oversee compliance areas.
  19. Adheres to all State and Federal Banking regulations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages Commercial Banking Area for the designated Market; is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units; Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Education and/or Experience

Prefer a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university. Must have at least seven years related diversified bank management experience and/or training.

Knowledge of federal and state banking regulations, bank policies and procedures, bank operations, products, and services, lending function, ag/commercial credit analysis, human resources management policies and procedures, and compliance regulations and guidelines.

Prefer to have completed Graduate School of Banking.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of commercial loan spread software and Microsoft Office Suite (outlook, word, excel, power point, etc.). Prefer experience with Fiserv and Suntell.

Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to travel to all bank locations using own transportation.
  • Must be available for calls and alerts outside of normal business hours
